As someone who grew up in the advent of the Internet, I kinda miss life without cell phones. Sure, they get me out of pickles and let me keep in touch with distant friends or meet new ones all over the world (like you!), but they also suck my attention and cause mental distress (comparing myself to others, seeing negative news, and getting frustrated with different opinions that really shouldn't affect my life.)
So, for July, I decided to give myself a mental health break and spend more time on things I enjoy--including being in the moment with the people around me. That meant limiting social media. Once a week, I check in with online friends and fans via messages, groups, and notifications.
As of mid-July (July 15), I'm definitely more upbeat and have found time to pick up hobbies I'd lost interest in, even starting some new ones. That includes writing and reading!
I decided to take advantage of the break and do CampNaNoWriMo, trying to write an entire book in a month. I've written every day and am already halfway through my goal! AND I'M ENJOYING IT! After months of stress and feeling down and not having motivation to tell my stories, it's progress. So, I may not stay quite so "anti-social" but I will definitely keep limits in the next month and see how it goes.
